T-LIGHTS Hike at Oregon Trail Park

The T-LIGHTS traveled to Oregon Trail Nature Park on September 29, for a hike, games, and BBQ supper.  The park, located north of Belvue, is managed by Western Resources. It contains 3 separate trails, including the Sea of Grass trail which stretches to the top ridge of the park and offers a spectacular view of the Jeffrey Energy Center and its cooling lake to the north, and the Kaw River valley to the south. Many species of birds and small animals can be spotted at the park. The park’s centerpiece is a large silo which has been painted with a three part mural by local artist Cynthia Martin. Sections of the mural depict the Oregon Trail, a bison hunt of the Plains Indians, and Kansas wildlife.

A special thanks to Michelle W. for sharing her photos of the event.
